A look at the 2010 Adelaide Cup Final Box Draw

by Matt on January 17, 2010

AdelaideNow’s Craig Cook has taken a look at the 2010 Adelaide Cup Final box draw, and after reading the article (originally published here) we thought it was well worth sharing with our readers. We’ll also update our dedicated 2010 Greyhound Adelaide Cup page with this same information. All in all, it’s clear that High Earner might have the chance to live up to his name, being clear favourite for the $85 000 final.

QUEENSLAND greyhound High Earner will start favourite for the Group 1 Adelaide Cup after drawing the prized box one in Thursday night’s rich final.

Trained by Dave and Christine Robartson at Churchable east of Ipswich, High Earner ran the fastest time of four semi-finals last week, posting 29.66sec for the 515m at Angle Park.

From the red box, the son of Collision will get every opportunity to win the $85,000 Adelaide Cup and live up to his name by exceeding $200,000 in career prizemoney. Fellow Queenslander Mr Metz looks the major danger after drawing box four from where he led all the way to win his semi-final.

Victorian Dyna Lachlan drew alongside High Earner in box two and will need to repeat his exceptional start in The Advertiser Interstate Challenge two weeks ago to threaten the northern invasion.

SA’s three runners could not have fared worse at the box draw.

Strictly Mambo, for Jan Jones, Ken Gill’s Where’s Diamond and Gavin Harris’ Springvale Dash drew the outside three boxes.

SA’s Greyhound of the Year awards at Angle Park last night was the venue for the box draw that will go a long way to determining the destiny of the 2010 Cup.

Drink Driver, trained by Rob Harnas at Lewiston, was declared the 2009 SA Greyhound of the Year.

The son of the 2005 Adelaide Cup winner Collide won three Greyhound of the Month awards in succession during 2009, from February to April.

Tafari Bale, for Lisa Rasmussen, was the Distance Greyhound of the Year and Paul Barry’s chaser Gold, who won $55,000 for the season, was the 2009 SA Bred winner.

So after that insightful look at the box draw, who will you be placing your money on? Mark this Thursday night’s race in your calendar… it’s sure to be a cracker!
