GRNSW Release for 2010 Golden Easter Egg
Below follows the full release from the GRNSW:
The NSW Greyhound Breeders, Owners and Trainers Association (NSW GBOTA) in partnership with Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) is pleased to announce that Australia’s richest greyhound race will now call Sydney home.
The prestigious Golden Easter Egg will net the winner an unprecedented $250,000 in 2010 following the signing of Macro Meats – Australia’s leading producer of Kangaroo and wild game meat – as the event’s major sponsor for the next five years. The 2010 Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg will be the highlight of a three-week carnival at Wentworth Park that will culminate in the running of the final on Saturday 3 April 2010.
The Golden Easter Egg has long been recognised as one of the Nation’s greatest events but the quarter of a million first prize has simply put the race into a league all of its own.
NSW GBOTA Executive Officer, Brenton Scott, said his Association was delighted to be working with Macro Meats in re-positioning the Golden Easter Egg.
“Macro Meats is one of Australia’s fastest growing businesses and the NSW GBOTA is excited at the opportunity to further build the company’s brand as we showcase what is now the richest event in the southern hemisphere,” explained Scott.
“The absolute cream of Australian greyhound racing will be coming to Sydney to compete and the benefits, both on and off the track, will be enormous.”
NSW GBOTA Chairman, Bill Mangafas, said that the prizemoney hike ensured the event would be looked upon as greyhound racing’s Holy Grail.
“Greyhound racing does not come any better than Easter Saturday at Wentworth Park and 2010 heralds an even more spectacular future for our flagship event.”
More than $350,000 in prizemoney will be won during the 2010 Golden Easter Egg series and Macro Meats are delighted with their sponsorship relationship.
“We have been strong supporters of the greyhound racing industry for some time and we saw this as an amazing opportunity to further expose our brand,” Macro Meats Managing Director Ray Borda said.
“In our industry, Macro Meats is Australia’s leading company so associating our brand with the Golden Easter Egg is, given the National and International profile it now has, a natural fit.”
The three week carnival will feature themed race nights, special functions and entertainment as well as the best greyhounds Australia has to offer.
“This is a major coup for the New South Wales greyhound racing industry,” GRNSW Chief Executive Brent Hogan said.
“Macro Meats saw the benefits of involving themselves with a growing sport that has thousands of participants, fans and television viewers. We are extremely happy to be supporting the NSW GBOTA and Macro Meats in what is another very positive step forward for NSW.”
“Sydney is now the home to the biggest and richest greyhound race in Australia. That is a testament to our code and the many wonderful people that are involved in the NSW industry.”
Further announcements regarding the 2010 Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg Carnival will made in the coming weeks.

Field Composition Details
Heats
The composition of the 10 heats of the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg will be determined by blind draw. Greyhounds trained in the same interest will be guarded.
Semi-Finals
Four semi-finals of the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg will be drawn and they will comprise the 10 heat winners, 10 heat second placegetters, 10 heat third placegetters and the fastest two fourths in the heats. The field composition of the semi-finals will be determined, firstly, by placings in heats and, secondly, times recorded in registering such placings. The formula used fairly seeds greyhounds into the semi-finals based on a combined consideration of the placings and times recorded by all greyhounds in the heats. No guarding for greyhounds trained in the same interest applies in the semi-finals. Semi-final composition is determined solely on the basis of heat performance to a pre-set formula.
Final
The final will comprise the four semi-final winners and the four semi-final second placegetters. The fastest two semi-final third placegetters will be first and second reserves in the final.
Golden Easter Egg Nomination Closing
Nominations for the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg will close with GRNSW at 12 Noon on Friday, March 12, 2010.
Greyhounds may be withdrawn without penalty up until 10am on Monday, March 15, 2010.
Box draw will take place at 2pm on Monday, March 15, 2010.

GRNSW & GBOTA Release for 2010 Golden Easter Egg
GRNSW & GBOTA have just put out a new release for the upcoming 2010 Golden Easter Egg, and all we can say is: we’re more excited than ever! We’ve included the full release below.
Some of the country’s best sprinters have already booked their spots in the 2010 Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg at Sydney’s iconic venue Wentworth Park.
The series will officially begin this Saturday night with the first of two Prelude programs, featuring two of NSW’s most exciting sprinting prospects in Goodesy and Tuiaki.
As the battle for a berth in the richest free entry greyhound race in the world heats up, there are a number of established stars already fine tuning for the big event.
Among the sport’s big names already qualified for the Group One spectacle include recently crowned Victorian Greyhound of the Year and Paws Of Thunder winner Cindeen Shelby, National Derby hero Elite Blue Size, Adelaide Cup winner Dyna Lachlan and Bulli Gold Plate victor Goodesy.
International competitors are set to make their presence felt with a couple of Irish greyhounds to come under the care of master Victorian trainer Darren McDonald.
The 2010 Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg will be second only to the Irish Derby in terms of stakes on offer for a single greyhound race. The long-term agreement with Macro Meats has allowed the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg to become Australia’s richest race.
NSW Greyhound Breeders Owners and Trainers Association Execeutive Officer Brenton Scott said he is looking forward to the Preludes signalling the countdown to the $250,000-to-the-winner final.
“We are grateful for the support of Managing Director and Founder Ray Borda and Macro Meats and the contribution his company will make to the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg,” he said.
Greyhound Racing NSW Chief Executive Brent Hogan added: “We are hoping the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg will become a truly global event.
“The interest generated in the 2010 series has prompted a response from overseas and we look forward to seeing how they shape up against our elite sprinters.”
2010 Golden Easter Egg Preludes Results
This past Thursday night saw the running of two of the preludes for the 2010 Golden Easter Egg, Australia’s richest greyhound race. The winners of the preludes are awarded automatic entry into the Easter Egg heats, and as such the preludes were hotly contested.
For those who want the executive summary: Prelude 1 favourite, Goodesy continued his fantastic form by winning his prelude, and in Prelude 2, the surprise win came from the $17.10 Budapest.
Below, we have the full results.

GRNSW Media Release – Sky Fly High bred to win 2010 Golden Easter Egg
The following is a media release put out by GRNSW touting Sky Fly High as being “bred to win” the 2010 Golden Easter Egg. It makes for an interesting read and gives punters something to think about.
The full media release is included below.
Looking for that well-bred Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg entrant? Look no further than Sky Fly High.
Closing in on her fourth birthday, the Vincent Bennett-trained veteran can count on proven bloodlines in Australia’s biggest race.
Her mother Token Melody is the daughter of outstanding sire Token Prince, who counts 2006 Golden Easter Egg winner Edie Beauchamp and 2008 champion Blazing Token among his best offspring.
Token Prince shares the most successful sire in Golden Easter Egg history with his father Malawi’s Prince, who shot to fame with back-to-back successes courtesy of Malawi Law (1995) and Tenthill Doll (1996). Black Shiraz is the only other sire to throw multiple Golden Easter Egg winners with Stately Bird (2000) and Cyrus The Virus (2003).
It all adds up nicely for Sky Fly High, a former National Futurity runner-up, ahead of the second Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg Prelude at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.
“Malawi’s Prince is basically the star kingdom of greyhound breeding and the same with Token Prince,” Bennett said.
The winner of each of the two Preludes is guaranteed entry into the heats of the richest free entry race in the world.
Robert Smith’s classy Lochinvar Marlow and Queensland visitor Robo Raptor present Sky Fly High’s biggest danger to punching that ticket into what will be her farewell series.
“He’s (Lochinvar Marlow) drawn inside of me so I’m going to run on the outside of him all the way,” Bennett said. “If he misses the kick I’m a chance. Sky Fly High has won seven at Wentworth Park and this will probably be her last couple of starts. We just hope she gets to the final of the Easter Egg.”

2010 Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg Shortlist
The following is an official release from GRNSW containing the shortlist for the 2010 Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg. The full release follows.
Australia’s owners and trainers have thrown their support behind the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg with the final field set to include the cream of greyhound racing talent.
No less than eight Group One winners have been accepted into the heats on Saturday 20 March ensuring an exceptional array of speedsters for the richest free entry race in the world.
The elite field includes 2010’s dual Group One winner Dyna Lachlan, favourite for tonight’s Australian Greyhound of the Year gong Cindeen Shelby, Topgun winner Fedex and National Derby hero Elite Blue Size.
In fact all eight finalists from the recent Group One Australian Cup have pledged their support to the pinnacle of the Australian greyhound racing calendar.
But trying to bring them down will be 2009 champion Dana Beatrice. She and trainer Rod McDonald are attempting to become the first greyhound and trainer to win the Golden Easter Egg twice in its 20 year history.
Dana Beatrice will spearhead the NSW charge along with 2009 Betfair NSW Greyhound of the Year Take The Kitty, smart youngsters Kelly’s Hero, Lochinvar Marlow and Elite Blue Size as well as the exciting Goodesy.
NSW Greyhound Breeders Owners and Trainers’ Association Executive Officer Brenton Scott said the response to the $250,000-to-the-winner event had been overwhelming.
“Just by looking at the top 80 greyhounds for the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg, you can appreciate that we really can expect the exceptional in this year’s event,” he said.
“The response from all around the country has been phenomenal to the major boost in prizemoney and we expect Australia’s richest race to cement itself as the premier event on not only the Australian calendar, but on the international one too.”
